- 3 pounds pork shoulder (trim excess fat)
- 1 teaspoon salt (for seasoning)
- 1 teaspoon black pepper (for seasoning)
- 1 tablespoon paprika (for seasoning)
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder (for seasoning)
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar (for seasoning)
- 1 cup barbecue sauce
- 0.25 cup apple cider vinegar
- 0.5 cup chicken broth
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
Instructions
- Trim excess fat from the pork shoulder and season it generously with salt, pepper, paprika, garlic powder, and brown sugar.
- Heat a skillet over medium-high heat and sear the pork shoulder on all sides until browned, about 3-4 minutes per side.
- Place the seared pork shoulder into the slow cooker.
- In a bowl, mix together the barbecue sauce, apple cider vinegar, chicken broth, and Worcestershire sauce.
- Pour the sauce mixture over the pork in the slow cooker.
- Cover and cook on low for 8-10 hours, or on high for 4-5 hours, until the pork is very tender and easily shredded with a fork.
- Remove the pork from the slow cooker and shred it using two forks.
- Return the shredded pork to the slow cooker and stir it into the juices.
- Serve warm on buns, tacos, or your favorite side dishes.
